Phrae
Nestled in northeast Thailand, Phrae sits at the foot of the mountains that separate Thailand from Laos. It is a spiritual city still little frequented by tourists but singularly rich in history. Its many temples, old walls and colonial teak houses bear witness to this. It currently has 20,000 inhabitants, particularly appreciated throughout the country for their hospitality. In Phrae, you are sheltered from mass tourism and the atmosphere is certainly peaceful.
What to see in Phrae ?
The Phrae region is the ideal destination to experience traditional Thai culture in peace. The city is little frequented by tourists but is full of ancestral beauty to make you fall under the charms of Thailand.
The city has a dozen temples to discover. The oldest is Wat Lang, known for its greenery as well as the house housed in the old wooden house. Among others, Wat Phra Non, which has existed for 200 years, retains the typical architecture of the region and has the status of a reclining Buddha. It is as interesting to visit the charming Wat Phong Sunan hidden behind the Vongburi House, and the Wat Phra That Cho Hae which is an important place of pilgrimage adorned with old teak trees. Nevertheless, the biggest tourist attraction remains Wat Phra That Suthon Mongkhon Khiri.
You will come across several wooden colonial houses in the city. Do not hesitate to explore the Vongburi House dedicated to the Prince of Phrae 130 years ago and the Chao Lang House built entirely of teak.
If you like nature, the Erawan caves are also worth visiting for their particular splendor.

Several buses leave from Bangkok to Phrae for a 10 hour drive. You can also reach the city from Chiang Mai for only 4 hours.
By train:
