Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to visit northern Thailand?

November to February: dry, sunny days and cool mountain mornings. March and April are very hot and can be hazy; from June to October it rains often, but the landscape is very green.

How many days do I need in the north?

At least 4 or 5 days for Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. With 10–12 days you can add Sukhothai, Lampang or Mae Hong Son without rushing.

Is trekking suitable for everyone?

Treks of 2–3 days need normal fitness, with a few hours of walking a day on hilly trails. Day trips are easier; let us know your level.

Can I combine the north with the beach?

Yes. Domestic flights link Chiang Mai to Phuket, Krabi or Koh Samui in under two hours, the most popular combination for a first trip.
