Important safety notice: Myanmar has been affected by armed conflict and political instability since 2021, and parts of the country, including several border areas with Thailand, are unsafe. Many governments currently advise against all or most travel to Myanmar. Before considering any trip, please read your own government's latest travel advice and check that your travel insurance covers Myanmar.

Is it safe to travel to Myanmar now?

The situation is serious and changes quickly. Many governments advise against all or most travel, and some areas are affected by fighting. Please check your government's official travel advice before planning; we will not confirm a trip that conflicts with the conditions of the moment.

Can I cross overland from Thailand at Myawaddy?

No. The Mae Sot–Myawaddy border area has been particularly affected by insecurity, so we have suspended our overland itinerary through this crossing. Any Myanmar request is reviewed case by case, using flights rather than land borders.

Will my travel insurance cover Myanmar?

Many policies exclude destinations where governments advise against travel. Confirm in writing with your insurer before booking anything that includes Myanmar.

What if I still want to experience Burmese culture?

Northern Thailand, especially Mae Hong Son and the areas around Chiang Rai, shares a lot of history and culture with Myanmar, including Shan (Tai Yai) temples, markets and food, and can be visited safely as part of a Thailand tour.
