History of Hin Dad Hot Spring

In 1943, Japanese soldiers, tasked with overseeing the construction of the notorious Death Railway during World War II, stumbled upon Hin Dat Hot Spring, previously known as Kui Mang Spring, by chance. During their work, they inadvertently came across a hidden gem—a natural hot spring accompanied by an underground stream that continuously offers mineral-rich water at temperatures ranging from 45 to 55 °C throughout the year.

Nowadays, the Hin Dat Hot Spring has become an immensely popular tourist attraction in Kanchanaburi. It caters to both Thai locals and foreign visitors who seek a tranquil and soothing experience by indulging in the warm water pools. The hot spring complex features three pools, each offering a different level of heat. Among them, there is a highly hot spring, a medium-temperature pool, and a smaller pool with lower heat specifically designed for younger children. Additionally, one pool is exclusively reserved for monks, providing them with a serene space for relaxation.

Nestled amidst nature, the Hin Dat Hot Spring is surrounded by lush greenery and shaded by trees. Adjacent to the hot spring complex, a gentle cold water stream flows, originating from the Pha Tat Waterfall in the Khuean Srinagarindra National Park. This stream runs parallel to the pools, offering a convenient source of refreshing cold water for visitors to cool down after enjoying the warmth of the pools.

Did you know that during WW2 and the building of the Thai-Burma Railway this was the site of a Japanese Army ‘comfort station’?
