Hua Hin Beach

If the famous beaches of Phuket and Pattaya are too crowded, why not head to Hua Hin beach, less known but rich in interesting activities.

Hua Hin beach is beautiful, uncrowded and quiet. Fine sand, smooth beach, clear water, with horses walking along the beach that you can sit on and enjoy the view of the beach. A great place to relax and chill out!

Location

Located in Hua Hin district, Prachuap Khiri Khan province, Hua Hin beach is one of the most popular beaches in Thailand. It used to be a villa for the royal family, whose history dates back to the reign of King Rama III. Hua Hin Beach covers a distance of about 13 km from Hua Hin Tunnel to Khao Takiab Mountain. Its clean beach, with fine sand and clear water, is ideal for swimming.

History

Hua Hin beach is the first popular vacation destination in Thailand. With its crystal clear waters, clean sand and good atmosphere, it has become a favorite place for tourists to enjoy for a long time. This spot has inspired many novels and dramas like Prissana. It is also home to the Klai Kang Won Palace, the summer residence of the royal family. The landmark of the beach is a concrete dam built in 1960.

Hua Hin Beach Activities

Water Sports

Those who visit Hua Hin Beach can enjoy all the classic beach activities found throughout Thailand, such as water skiing, banana boat, jet skiing and parasailing. The waters at this beach are also shallow and free of rip currents, making it an ideal swimming spot.

Relaxation

Alternatively, you can rent beach chairs and umbrellas and sit on the soft sand or walk along the sandy strip and enjoy the serene but lively atmosphere. One of the wonderful things of Hua Hin beach is that it remains accessible even during high tide, which occurs approximately every four days and inundates the neighboring beaches. This is due to the beach’s advantageous location and the presence of rock formations, which ensure that there is always a stretch of sand available for strolling. Furthermore, the beach’s orientation towards the east offers a spectacular view of the sunrise that is truly awe-inspiring.

Horse Riding

Hua Hin beach is one of the few beaches in Thailand where you can realize your dream of riding a horse or pony on the soft white sand.
You can pick the horse you like. The jockey will help you get on the horse and explain how to ride it, so you can have a safe ride. Horse riding on the white sandy beach will be a memorable experience during your vacation in Hua Hin.

Kite Surfing

Hua Hin beach is the main beach of the city and it is a great place to kitesurf. It’s a long and wide beach, which gives kitesurfers plenty of room to take off and ride. The water is relatively flat, thus making it a great spot for beginners, and there are usually plenty of other kitesurfers around to give advice. However, please keep in mind that the beach can get very crowded during the peak tourist season.

Massage

A Thai massage is a must for all visitors travelling to Thailand and Hua Hin beach is no exception! If you’re feeling particularly indulgent, you can always sign up for a massage at one of the stalls right next to the beach, or even on the beach.

Best time to visit Hua Hin beach

Although the winter season, which runs from November to April, is considered the peak season for traveling to Thailand, and in particular Hua Hin, this time of year can be very busy. If you want to spend a quiet day on Hua Hin beach without being disturbed, the summer months, from May to October, are your best option. Also, during the summer season, Thailand can experience heavy rainfall, but Hua Hin is spared this thanks to the mountains to the west of the city. As a result, the city is a safe respite that offers you sunny beach vibes all year round.

How to reach to Hua Hin beach

A train from Bangkok to Hua Hin takes about 4 hours and is the most efficient system. The Hua Hin train station is located in the center of the city. Hua Hin beach is 1.2 kilometers from the train, which takes about 8 minutes.
You can also take a bus from Bankok South Bus Station to Srasong Road in Hua Hin. Buses take about 3 hours to travel the distance between Bangkok and Hua Hin.

Tips to travel to Hua Hin beach

  • There are no showers or bathrooms on the beach in Hua Hin.
  • Due to the large number of hotels and guesthouses lining the beach, there is not enough shade. However, it is always possible to rent an umbrella in one of the many huts.
  • The waters of Hua Hin beach are not ideal for snorkeling or fishing due to the very low visibility, as the sea bottom is mostly sandy.
  • The best time to kitesurf on Hua Hin beach or even in the city is from November to February.

Overall, Hua Hin Beach offers a perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, and culture. It is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Thailand.

Beautiful beach spoilt by all the kite surfers

Apr 2023 • Solo
Hua Hin Beach is lovely and sandy if you go south towards Takiap area. The sea is shallow for quite a way out. Further north, near Hua Hin Hilton, there are big rocks in the sea. This can work to your advantage because the sandy area of Hua Hin Beach is plagued by kite surfers, which get dangerously close to swimmers. It’s a shame because, apart from the awful kite surfers, it’s a beautiful beach and sea for swimming.

Hua Hin beach post Covid

Apr 2022 • Solo
In 2022, I spent 2 months in Thailand, March-May with 24 nights in Hua Hin. Of the 24 nights I walked Hua Hin beach 20 mornings after breakfast. The beach is one of the longest stretches of beautiful beaches I’ve seen in my travels. With covid still visible in the rear view mirror, the beach was sparse with tourists, which was great for me. On Sunday’s there is giant kite instruction and several in the air. Daily there are rentals of beach wind carts, jet skis and horseback rides.

The water was warm but cool enough to get relief from the extremely hot Thai sun. For me, this is some of the most enjoyable and affordable forms of exercise in Thailand. Highly recommend.
