Phuket Big Buddha

Phuket Big Buddha stands as a prominent and sacred symbol on the island, holding significant importance for the locals and visitors alike. Perched atop the Nakkerd Hills, nestled between Chalong and Kata, this colossal 45-meter-tall statue is a sight to behold, visible even from far-off places like Phuket Town and Karon Beach.

Sitting at such an elevated location, the Phuket Big Buddha site offers unrivaled 360-degree panoramic views of the entire island. From this vantage point, one can marvel at the breathtaking vistas of Phuket Town, Kata, Karon, Chalong Bay, and beyond. To reach this magnificent destination, you embark on a scenic journey along a winding, 6-km road that branches off from Phuket‘s main roads.

Undoubtedly, a visit to this iconic site is a must for anyone exploring the wonders of the island.

The entire body is made of reinforced concrete, covered in a beautiful Burmese white jade marble that glistens in the sunlight. The views and the image itself are breathtaking.

Beside Phuket’s main Buddha stands a smaller, gold-colored Buddha statue, although actually made of 20 tons of brass. There are also several much smaller statues of Buddha and revered monks.

Don’t miss the Big Buddha

We were fortunate to start our day here when the visitors were low. The Buddha is magnificent and the views around the island are stunning. We were able to participate in a 7 minute meditation practice and other rituals. This temple makes it very accessible to participate and learn about Buddist practices.

Impressive land mark with incredible views. Not too many steps to top. Construction going on inside but for $15 you can have your name put on a tile and goes on inside wall, pays toward cost of renovation. Free to get in, walk around. Well worth it.
