History of Wat Huay Mongkol

The temple, previously known as Huay Khot Temple, is situated in Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. His Majesty King Rama IX renamed the temple from Wat Huay Khot to Wat Huay Mongkol. The temple complex features a large alloy portrait of the revered monk. Additionally, a wooden statue of Luang Pu Thuat is located at the center of the temple complex. Visitors can also enjoy a stunning panoramic view of the Tanaosri Mountains that span across Thailand and Myanmar.

Thai people hold Luang Pu Thuat in high regard due to his legendary feats. According to one story, when a boat was stranded in the sea, he transformed saltwater into freshwater to provide drinking water for the passengers. Many Thai Buddhists visit Wat Huay Mongkol to pay their respects to Luang Pu Thuat and seek blessings.

Located about 18 kilometers to the west of Hua Hin town, Wat Huay Mongkol Temple is just a 20-minute drive away. To reach the temple complex from the center of Hua Hin, you need to head west, cross the railways, and take road number 3218.

Interesting place to visit
Dec 2021
Interesting place to visit if you fancy a drive south of Hua Hin. There’s a huge Bubba & temple there. Can be busy if there are any Thai festivals on. Worth the trip for a bit of Thai culture & it will keep you out of the bars of Hua Hin for a while.
