Emerald Pool, Krabi
The Emerald Pool, Krabi also known as Sa Morakot in Thai, offers an enchanting natural spectacle. Fed by crystal-clear streams flowing down from the hills, this turquoise haven attracts visitors with its refreshing waters.
Emerald Pool Atrractions
The journey to the Emerald Pool is a captivating adventure itself, a true communion with nature. A well-marked trail winds through the lush landscape, guiding travelers 1.4 kilometers into the heart of the jungle. Along the way, one encounters crystal-clear streams, delicate amber ponds and an immense variety of tropical flora and trees, each weaving a tapestry of color and life. The jungle’s embrace leads to Sa Kaew, or Crystal Pool, a stepping stone to the big finale of the park, Emerald Pool. Through the foliage, the turquoise waters sparkle in the distance, creating a picturesque panorama.
With its 1-2 meter depth, the Emerald Pool is the perfect place for a leisurely dip, an opportunity too tempting to resist. The pool’s ambience is breathtaking, a scene that even attracts photographers to capture its allure. Caution is advised when entering the water, however, as the limestone rocks below can be slippery. Wearing bathing shoes is a wise choice. The enchanting shades of turquoise are due to the lake’s high limestone and mineral content, a natural masterpiece of coloring.
Blue Pool
A 15-minute stroll along a well-maintained path leads from the Emerald Pool to the Blue Pool, an exquisite expanse offering captivating views, perfect for creating treasured photos. Set against the backdrop of the jungle’s embrace, the Blue Pool lives up to its name, with water that seems to radiate a soft luminescence. However, the lure of its appearance can be deceptive, for unlike the inviting waters of Emerald Pool, Blue Pool is closed to swimming. Its bottom is made up of treacherous quicksand, and the water temperature fluctuates between 30 – 50 °C.
How to get there
The main gateway to Thung Teao Forest National Park has a large parking area for vans, cabs and private vehicles.
Recognized as one of Krabi’s top attractions, we strongly recommend exploring the Emerald Pool early in the morning.
Although official opening hours start at 10:30 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m., it’s perfectly possible to start your visit earlier, but without the presence of the guards on duty.
Entrance fee
The main entrance has a ticket control point, requiring you to pay the required entry fee. This fee contributes to the preservation of the Khao Pra-Bang Khram Wildlife Sanctuary and amounts to 400 Thai baht for foreigners (200 Thai baht for children), while Thai nationals must pay 30 Thai baht (20 Thai baht for children).

Expensive but nice and refreshing pool

Lovely walk to get to the emerald and blue pool. Sun was out so the colours of the water were pretty. We went on a weekday, shortly after lunchtime. Amount of people there was still okay to enjoy some swimming and relaxing in the pool. 400 baht is a bit expensive though

Beautiful pool

So entrance fee – 400 bath per adult, yes seems a lot but, place is well maintained, with staff looking after the pool. Some are complaining a bout locals paying 14 times less, on now compare average income of European, American and local person. I think it’s fare as this expect temples is only place where I saw that many local people visiting the place.
Path trough the jungle is fantastic. Pool itself is place to see, definitely would like to see less people in it but it’s one of local top attractions.
