Wat Charoen Sukaram Worawihan
WAT CHAROEN SUKARAM WORAWIHAN วัดเจริญสุขารามวรวิหาร
There are famous and touristy floating markets, and others, quieter, almost unknown.
This is the case of the modest floating market of Wat Charoen Sukaram Worawihan, at the northern edge of Samut Songkhram province, near the Nativity Cathedral.
Ironically, it is located on the same canal as the crowded floating market of Damnoen Saduak.
On weekends, this market hosts a few boats and vendors on a part of the canal blocked by a lock. That day, the noodle boats were worth the detour.
In addition to this market in a simple and natural setting, this temple is renowned for housing a beautiful Buddha marked by time and the thousands of gold leaves applied to its body.
Placed in the Ubosot, on a largely raised altar, one must climb several steps to reach this Buddha effigy named Luang Po To (หลวงพ่อโต).
Once on the platform, several meters high and without a railing, the view is breathtaking on the assembly of worshippers.
When you finally approach the statue, it becomes striking by the thickness of gold that covers it.
At this level, it is one of the most impressive in Thailand.
