Wat Kaew Korawaram
Wat Kaew Korawaram, commonly known as Wat Kaew, is the largest Buddhist temple in Krabi town and occupies a prominent place in the region. Although it doesn’t attain the same level of renown as the Tiger Cave Temple, located beyond the city’s outskirts, the temple remains a must-see for those visiting Krabi.
Wat Kaew Korawaram attractions
Perched gracefully on a hilltop with a breathtaking view of downtown Krabi, the temple’s origins date back to 1887. At that time, 200 families settled in Baan Pak Nam, the town’s former name. In this stimulating environment, a community of monks took root and flourished. Access to the grandeur of Wat Kaew is via Maharaj Road, ideally located opposite Soi 6.
The ascent to the 2,500-square-meter terrace where the temple majestically stands is via a staircase adorned with resplendent statues of Nāga, the intriguing snake-shaped Hindu deity. At the top of this staircase, the vast temple complex greets visitors with its distinctive allure – white walls harmonizing with unconventional dark blue tiled roofs, a departure from the red and gold hues that usually adorn the roofs of Buddhist temples in Thailand.
Inside Wat Kaew’s ordination hall, natural light flows freely through windows open on all sides, creating a radiant ambience. The captivating red ceiling complements the splendid paintings that adorn the light-blue walls. In this sacred space stands an important golden statue of Buddha, accompanied by precious relics of Buddha himself.
Next to the present temple is Wat Kaew’s original ordination hall. Today, this historic structure houses the Krabi Museum of Contemporary Art, reflecting the region’s evolving artistic heritage. The temple terrace houses not only Wat Kaew’s sacred amulet and souvenir store, but also food and beverage stalls.
Opening Hours
The temple is open daily from 8am to 3 pm.

A Nice Temple

Bang smack in the middle of town. 8 flights of 8 steps (8 being a lucky number I guess). A gentle walk up and you can view the inside of the small but very ornate temple. Worth a visit if on Krabi town but not worth traveling to, unless you want to enjoy the night market or the much bigger and better weekend night market.

Small temple overlooking Krabi, we came across it by chance whilst visiting a market in the centre of Krabi. Only very small but worth a visit if your in town, don’t miss the statues of elephants and a tiger in the gardens on your left as you walk up the steps.
